What is all the talk about the year 2012? The world coming to an end? Apocalypse? Armageddon? Or a "leap" for humanity? Massive earthquakes, flooding, extreme weather, volcanic eruptions… all increasing in intensity and leading us right to the fateful date, December 21,2012. What is so significant about this date?
Well many will point to an extremely rare galactic alignment they expect to happen, during which our sun will pass through the center of the Milky Way galaxy, an event so rare that it is only expected to happen every 26,000 years. What does that mean? Well, the short answer is that no one seems to know for certain. There is a whole lot of speculation and some educated guesses as well as many who say there is nothing to worry about at all, so those guesses take a knowledge seeker from one end of the spectrum to the other.

There is a lot of talk about a rare galactic alignment which is set to occur on precisely December 21, 2012 - during which our sun will pass through the center of the galaxy. There is talk of the possibility of a super-massive blackhole in the center of the galaxy. It’s gravitational pull is so intense, that nothing can escape from a blackhole, including light. This, unfortunately, raises more questions rather than giving us any answers. Much of the murmurs regarding December 21, 2012 however, come from records of ancient civilizations, some who seemed to have left their warnings for us – warnings about the end times, or about the shift of ages, or great cycles for our earth. Great cycles which include catastrophic weather and apocalyptic events – leading us time and again to the 2012 topic which is growing as a hot topic on the internet, and television, and even soon Hollywood’s version, as a movie is released the summer of 2009. Among past civilizations are the Mayans, the Egyptians, the Hopi Indians….even individuals highly regarded to “see” certain future events, such as Nostradamus, have put warnings to paper which seem to point to this galactic alignment as a very significant change for our earth and for human kind – or more recently Edgar Cayce who also recorded catastrophic foretelling. Recordings found in ancient calendars, lost books, the IChing, and others, have fueled the discussions about whether we may be heading for the end times or a major shift in the world as we now know it. In addition to these, many are also referring to the the sunspot cycle and it’s dangerous climax of activity expected for that year of 2012. I was watching the History channel just the other night, and some scientists are also claiming that we may be in the middle of a mass extinction right now, as certain species that have survived for millions of years are now beginning to disappear – species such as some kinds of frogs and salamanders. Put all of this information together, and it could be cause for panic, or at least cause for much heated debate as we draw nearer to 12.21.12.
